THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is a possibility of rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in the state from April 15th to 17th and strong winds with a speed of 30 to 40 kmph, as updated by the Central Meteorological Department.

As thunderstorms are dangerous, one should avoid standing in open areas if lightning symptoms are observed. The alert of the State Disaster Management Authority states that the electrical connection of household appliances should be disconnected and proximity to electrical appliances should be avoided.

Meanwhile, the Central Meteorological Department has informed that there is no problem with fishing in the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center has informed that there is a possibility of a 0.5 to 1.0-meter high wave and storm surge on the Kerala coast till 11.30 pm on the 13th and the speed of the wave is likely to vary between 05 - 20 cm/sec.

Fishermen and coastal residents beware

  1. As rough seas are likely to intensify, people should stay away from dangerous areas as per the instructions of the authorities.
  2. Keep fishing vessels (vessels, boats, etc.) safely moored in the harbor. Keeping a safe distance between boats can avoid the risk of collision. The safety of fishing equipment should be ensured.
  3. Avoid trips to the beach and activities at sea altogether.
