THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KPCC is preparing to come up with a history book highlighting the achievements of various governments, including the C Achuthamenon government, of which the Congress was part. This is the first time the administrative achievements of the various governments, in which the Congress took part after the formation of Kerala, are going to be presented in book form. The move comes amidst KPCC's feeling that the achievements of the Congress governments are being ignored while the achievements of the Left governments are being lauded. The inclusion of the achievements of the C Achutha Menon government will lead to a great political debate especially when there is criticism that the CPM is trying to hide Achyutamenon's administrative achievement in the Land Reforms Act.

The book "Keralathile Aikya Munnani Sarkkarukalum Kshema-Vikasana Padhathikalum" (Kerala's United Front Governments and Welfare and Development Schemes) is likely to be published by Priyadarshini Publications under KPCC. The book will be jointly written by Kerala History Congress former secretary Prof Gopakumaran Nair and historian Dr Suresh. This is a part of the year-long Vaikom Satyagraha centenary celebrations initiated by KPCC. KPCC is planning various historical and scientific programs, including this.

During the fiftieth anniversary of the Land Reforms Act, CPM leaders had omitted C Achuthamenon's role in a historical narrative about it. This had led to a lot of debates. The CPI is unhappy that the role of Achuthamenon is being forgotten.

Although the Land Reforms Act was passed with radical amendments during the term of the seven-party cabinet with EMS as Chief Minister and KR Gouri Amma as Revenue Minister, the cabinet resigned before getting the President's approval. Later, it was the Achuthamenon government that was able to implement it. Feudalism came to an end in 1970 when the law came into effect. It was the CPI-Congress-League government that secured legal protection for the Land Reforms Act by including it in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution in 1971. Therefore, it is noteworthy that the Congress can claim this achievement in its new history book. KPCC's book becomes politically significant because it will be a challenge to CPM and acceptable to CPI.
