NEW DELHI: According to the final report of the National Credit Framework being implemented by the UGC as part of the new National Curriculum, studying Indian branches of knowledge including Puranas and Vedas will enable students to earn more credit.
18 major vidyas, or theoretical disciplines, and 64 kalas, applied science or vocational subjects, handicrafts etc. has been included. The 18 sciences of ancient India include four related Vedas (Ayurveda - Medicine, Dhanurveda - Weapons, Gandharva Veda - Music, Shilpa - Architecture), Purana, Nayam, Mimamsa, Dharmashastra, Vedanga, Six Auxiliary Sciences, Phonetics, Grammar, Astronomy, Ritual, and philosophy were also included.
Other Sectors: Sports and Games, Personal Arts, Crafts, Education, Healthcare, Anti-Drug Activities, Social Work, and Startups.
Medals, titles received in national and international events, awards like Padma by central and state governments or other recognized institutions, social work, etc. will also be considered for credit. Credits can also be earned through classroom teaching/learning, laboratory work, innovation labs, sports, games, yoga, physical activity, performing arts, music, craft work, social work, and NCC.
Credit:
It is a means of measuring a student's knowledge against a specified qualification. Credits acquired through school, higher and vocational skills education are integrated. It covers the credits to be earned during the course of study from Class 5 to the Ph.D. level with 30 hours of study time per credit.
