AMRITSAR: The probe team, which is investigating the shooting at the military base in Bathinda, is yet to find the attackers. After four soldiers were killed in the firing on Wednesday, another soldier on security duty was also shot dead near the army camp on Thursday morning.

With this, the incident is becoming more mysterious. The investigation team says that there is no presence of terrorists or outsiders behind the shooting at the army base. However, suspicion extends to Khalistan terrorists as well. The military base in Bathinda is one of the largest military bases in the country. The firing in the high-security area has shocked the authorities. Although some are claiming that insiders may be behind the attack, the fact that the assailants have not been apprehended even after two days after the incident adds to the mystery of the incident. The camp and its surroundings are on high alert in the wake of the firing. Schools in the area remained closed yesterday.

The police recorded the statement of the soldier who witnessed the attack on Wednesday. He said he saw two men in white kurtas and pyjamas running away immediately after the shooting. The CCTV footage also corroborates the statement. One of them had an INSAS rifle in his hand and the other had an axe. The method of attack is similar to a terrorist attack.

The police said that a case has been registered against the unknown accused under the relevant sections. Sagar, Kamlesh, Santhosh and Yogesh, jawans of the 80 Medium Regiment, were killed on Wednesday. Laghu Raj Shankar succumbed to a rifle shot while on duty on Thursday. The police are saying that this incident is not related to the first shooting and that Laghu Raj Shankar shot himself. Laghu Raj Shankar returned to duty after leave on Tuesday.
