KOCHI: The Kerala Government is all set to question the high court order to translocate the rogue tusker Arikomban to Parambikulam in the Supreme Court. The government will file a plea in the Supreme Court on Monday. The case documents have been handed over to the standing council of the Supreme Court. The government is moving the Supreme Court as the order of the high court said that if there is an alternate place, the state itself should identify them.
It is hinted that the state will reiterate in the Supreme Court their old demand to capture the tusker and move it to a cage in Kodanad elephant camp. It will also be brought to the attention of the Supreme Court that there will be protests wherever Arikomban is translocated in Kerala.
Meantime, the forest officials are worried as they could not find any other suitable place to translocate Arikomban if not Parambikulam. Due to the delay in the process, the mission team that came to the district in connection with the operation is in trouble. The government has spent Rs 7 lakh for the team so far.
Kumki elephants are continuing in Chinnakanal region for about a month. Even on special days, their mahouts and main officials could not leave the place. In the meantime, a court directive is there to monitor Arikompan 24 hours a day. The court will consider the case again on April 19.
The people of Chinnakanal and Santhanpara region are worried as the mission is being delayed. The Congress and CPM along with the people are planning to protest against the government. Chinnakanal and Santhampara panchayat presidents will also join the strike.
The decision to bring the GPS radio collar device from Bengaluru to be fitted on Arikomban has been shelved due to technical reasons. Instead, the caller will be brought from Assam today. It is believed that the radio collar will reach Kochi through air cargo. It was earlier said that the radio caller will be brought from Bengaluru on Thursday.
