After much ado, the central government vanity project Vande Bharat has touched the rails in Kerala. The super-fast trains with elite facilities were all in news for the past few months. Citizens on their debut ride shared pictures that flooded social media platforms inspiring awe about the meteoric rise of the Indian railway to golden standards.
Talks were ample about Kerala being denied the prestigious Vande Bharat trains. Politicians and media discussions juxtaposed the omission to BJP's feeble presence in the state. Albeit all odds, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the first Vande Bharat trains in Kerala on April 25. The train reached Thiruvananthapuram yesterday and will undertake many trail runs to ensure safety.
The superfast train will service from Thiruvananthapuram to Kannur. The south Indian railway general manager headed panel will be reaching the capital to discuss the procedure before the train starts its official run. The stops and timings of the service will be decided soon. Prime minister after ending his commitments in Kochi will fly to Thiruvananthapuram to inaugurate the special trains. Railway mister Ashwini Vaishnav will also take part in the ceremony.
Vande Bharat trains normally run at a fierce 160km per hour. However, in Kerala, the numbers get altered to the range of 90-100 km per hour. The perilous railway tracks and the big curves and turns in large stymies a faster run. Signaling procedures are on reforms and more needs to be done before the elite train starts its run.
Vande Bharat trains will reach Ernakulam from Thiruvananthapuram in lightning two hours. The full journey to Kannur will be completed in just six hours. The move will surely obliterate the need for the K-rail but will gift relief and happiness to the people of Kerala, not just for the time-saving run but also for the cheaper rates.
Meanwhile, Nemom terminal and another potpourri of works are still stalled in the state. Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnav works a prudent way and has the know-how of the pending works in the state. All such hindrances also need answers. But for now, Vande Bharat takes over all other concerns and stays au courant.
