KOZHIKODE: The special investigation team in Elathur train fire case has three days left to question the accused Shahrukh Saifi. The custody period ends on 18th at 4 pm. Although NIA and other central agencies confirm terror links, no evidence regarding this was received. An identification parade was held at AR camp in Kozhikode yesterday with the eyewitnesses. Main witness Mattanur native Rasiq and three others who were on the train were brought for the identification. They were able to identify the accused. He was later taken to Shornur to collect evidence.
The evidence collection took place under the security of the armed forces. He was also taken to the pump from where he bought the petrol. The team also collected details from the employees who were working at the pump on April 2. A large crowd gathered there to see the accused. Then he was taken to platform number 1 at Shornur railway station and returned after five minutes.
On the day of the attack, the accused reached Shornur at 4 am and stayed there till 7 pm. The police are investigating what he was doing there for 15 hours. They also suspect that the accused received local help as cooked food was found from the container in the bag he abandoned.
