KOTTAYAM: Action has not been taken against the police officers who tried to save Jose K Mani’s son Mani Jr in the Manimala accident case. Jis and Jins, two brothers were killed in the accident. There was serious lapse from the part of the police including not registering the FIR for false statement and not conducting a blood test.

Kanjirapally DYSP, who has been assigned to investigate the incident, says that a preliminary investigation is underway against the policemen. The District Police chief is on leave. An FIR was registered for falsely recording the statement of the person who was in his house at the time of the accident. The FIR stated that a 45-year-old man was driving the car that caused the accident. Not recording the statements of eyewitnesses was also a police strategy to save Kunjumani. When the issue became controversial, Kunjumani was made the accused and was secretly arrested after 24 hours. As a result, the blood test could be avoided.

“I am on leave till Monday due to personal reasons. Willl take action when I return to work.”, said K Karthik, district police chief.
