BENGALURU: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi by raising the Adani issue at the 'Jai Bharat' conference in Kolar, Karnataka. "BJP thinks that they can scare me by disqualifying me, but I am not scared of being disqualified or jailed." Rahul also accused Modi of giving thousands of crores of rupees to Adani.
"We will be giving the money to the poor, women, and youth of Karnataka. Modi is wholeheartedly helping Adani, but we will be wholeheartedly helping the people here. The BJP government takes a 40% commission whenever something is done for the people. A letter has been written to the Prime Minister clarifying this, but no reply has been received so far. Adani and SBI board members met during Modi's visit to Australia, after which SBI gave Adani a loan of 1,000 crores. No matter which foreign country the Prime Minister goes to, Adani will get the major contracts there. Who owns the 20,000 crore rupees invested in Adani's shell companies?'- asked Rahul.
"Twice I wrote to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha requesting an opportunity to explain the allegations against me, but I was not given the opportunity.' Rahul also said that the Speaker was afraid to discuss the Adani issue in Parliament.
The Surat court had sentenced Rahul Gandhi to prison for his controversial speech in Kolar and subsequently revoked his Lok Sabha membership. The Lok Sabha Secretariat had asked Rahul to vacate his official residence after his membership was canceled. Congress has decided to use this as the main weapon of the election campaign. That is why the same venue in Kolar where the controversial speech was made was chosen for the Jai Bharat conference.
