KOZHIKODE: UAPA has been charged against Shahrukh Saifi, the Elathur train fire case accused. A report in this regard will be submitted to the Magistrate Court. The UAPA was imposed after finding confirmed terrorist links behind the arson. UAPA offense will be added to the report to be submitted to the court after Shahrukh's custodial term is completed.
The investigation team could not find any evidence to confirm the terrorist link. The investigation team decided to impose UAPA on the basis of the indications received from the accused during the interrogation. NIA will take over the investigation with the imposition of UAPA.
The Alappuzha - Kannur Executive Express train was set on fire at Elathur in Kozhikode on Sunday night, April 2. Three people who jumped out of the train during the fire died and eight passengers were burnt. The accused Shahrukh Saifi was arrested by the police from Ratnagiri in Maharashtra within days after the incident.
