NEW DELHI: 185 people have been killed in clashes in the last six years since Yogi Adityanath became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. According to official figures, 183 people have been shot dead by the UP police since March 2017. There were 10713 clashes in UP. Most of those killed were criminals with a bounty of Rs 75,000 to Rs 5 lakh on their heads.
Six accused in the Umesh Pal murder case, including Atiq Ahmed, were killed in the last three months. Umesh Pal and a security officer were killed on February 24 last. Later, accused Arbaaz was killed in a police encounter. Usman alias Vijay Chaudhary in March and Atiq's son Azad and his accomplice Ghulam were killed in an encounter with the police in Jhansi on April 13. On Saturday night, the prime accused in Umesh Pal murder case, Atiq and Ashraf, were killed by assailants. Umesh Pal was a witness in the murder case of BSP MLA Raju Pal.
