KOCHI: The Vatican gave a clean chit to Cardinal Mar George Alencherry in the controversial property deals surrounding the Ernakulam-Angamaly archdiocese. The Vatican court then approved for the sale of 42 acres at Devikulam and Kottapadi to redeem the loss affected by the syro-malabar church. The move has given the yearned relief for Syromalabar major archbishop Mar George Alencherry. The verdict said Alencherry not directly involved in the property deal.
One faction in the syro-malabar church appealed to the Vatican to redeem the loss from archbishop Alenchery himself. However, the court dismissed the plea and ruled in favor of the bishop. The court order also asks to restrict factions from tainting the image of the church.
The land should be sold according to the present market rate to cover the loss. Alencherry signed on papers being the head of the church but never truly engaged in the fraud. The court also asked the faithful and the church to back him rather than involving in mudslinging.
