vigilance-corruption

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A department-level investigation has been ordered against Thiruvananthapuram vigilance DYSP Velayudhan Nair. He took Rs 50000 from government officials to help them evade arrest.

The police training college principal will head the investigation, as per the home ministry. Within two weeks, the memo should be filed. Velayudhan Nair is currently under suspension.

Velayudhan Nair once arrested Thiruvalla municipal secretary S Narayanan and office attender Hasina Begum after the two were caught asking Rs 25000 bribe from an individual who reached the revenue office for an emergency. Later, the same Velayudhan Nair admitted in the court about the arrest was a mistake from vigilance and dismissed the case. Doubts were handy about the sudden end given to the case which forced the officers to go for a search. The findings revealed Velayudhan Nair's account getting transferred with Rs 50000 from Narayananan who was earlier arrested on charges of corruption.
