THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The liquor production which was suspended for setting up two more lines to double the production of Jawan rum, will be resumed by the end of this week. The production at Travancore Sugars and Chemicals was halted on April 1. Full capacity production will begin in the first week of May. Only one litre bottles of jawan will be released.

There might be a shortage of Jawan rum if the current stock in warehouses and retail shops runs out. It was decided to make the new lines operational on April 15. However, the work was not completed on time. Only 8000 cases were produced daily but with the introduction of new lines, it will increase to 15,000 cases. Four tanks with a capacity of 71,000 litres each have been installed. Rs 3 crore is the total cost.

A hydrostatic test for leakage testing of new tanks should be carried out. Then the legal metrology department should verify the measurement and give approval. A request has been given to Excise department to increase production.

Rs 110 crore turnover

Jawan is priced at Rs 640 per litre. The Jawan premium brand priced at Rs 750 will also be launched soon. Rs 110 crore turnover in 2022-23. Rs 10 crore is the profit.
