NEW DELHI: A five-judge constitution bench of the Supreme Court will begin hearing the petitions seeking the legalization of same-sex marriage today. The petitions were filed by same-sex partners. A bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul, S Ravindra Bhat, Hima Kohli and PS Narasimha will be hearing the case. There will be live streaming on the Supreme Court's official website main.sci.gov.in and official YouTube channel. The Supreme Court has 20 petitions including those summoned from various High Courts.
The central government had filed an affidavit strongly opposing the parties' demand to allow same-sex marriages to be registered.
