NEW DELHI: The NIA will take over the Elathur train arson case and the notification of the union home ministry is expected to release soon. Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) charges were earlier slapped on Shahrukh Saifi, the accused in the case. Meantime, the investigation team from Kerala who were in Delhi have returned. The officials except SP Sojan have returned. There is an information that a person from Delhi has been summoned to Kozhikode for questioning in connection with Shahrukh.

The investigating team had the other day stated that Saifi used to watch videos of Zakir Naik regularly and that he is highly radicalized. Evidences for it have been obtained. Shahrukh reached Kerala planning to set fire to the train, said ADGP M R Ajith Kumar.

More investigation is needed to find out his terrorist links. The UAPA was imposed based on scientific evidence. It will be extensively investigated whether he had received any help from the locals. The case was registered by the railway police. A detailed investigation was conducted in other states as well. The investigation was in collaboration with the state police and central agencies. UAPA was imposed on the basis of evidence. The investigation on whether the accused received help in Kerala is in progress.

The case needs to be investigated very extensively. Whether the accused is connected with any organization cannot be said now. The ADGP said the accused is 27 years old and has studied till plus two in National Open School.
