KOZHIKODE: The NIA has taken over the probe in Elathur train fire case. NIA’s Kochi unit will investigate the case and the FIR has been registered in the court at Kochi. The action was taken after the Ministry of Home Affairs issued an order directing to take up the case.

Shahrukh Saifi, the accused in the case, will be shifted to Viyyur Jail. The court will consider his bail application tomorrow. The police charged the accused with sections including UAPA stating that there was terrorist connection behind the incident. The police were ready to charge UAPA against the accused two weeks after he was taken into custody.

The special investigation team had stated the other day that Shah Rukh Saifi used to watch videos of Zakir Naik regularly and he is highly radicalised. The probe team also said that it is not possible to say whether the accused has connections with any organizations. The incident took place on April 2 at 9:30 pm on the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express.
