KOZHIKODE: Shahrukh Saifi, the accused in the train arson case, has been shifted to Viyyoor Central Jail after the 11-day custody period. The police will no longer take custody as the NIA has taken over the investigation. The court will consider Shahrukh's bail plea today.

The investigation team told the court that UAPA was imposed because they are convinced that terrorism was behind the violence.

Judicial First Class Magistrate SV Manesh ordered the transfer of the accused to Viyyoor High Security Jail as requested by the investigation team. Additional Public Prosecutor Jinath Kunnath appeared for the investigation team. Shah Rukh Saifi's bail application was submitted through Legal Aid Defense Chief Counsel P Peethambaran. The Judicial First Class Magistrate Court will pass judgment on it today.

After Shahrukh Saifi was brought to the court, the medical team from Beach General Hospital did a medical examination. Shahrukh Saifi was brought to the court with huge security preparations. The police stopped the lawyers which led to a small altercation.

The incident that rocked the nation took place on April 2 at around 9.30 pm. Shahrukh boarded the D-1 coach of the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express from Shornur and poured the petrol he was carrying in his hand at Elathur in Kozhikode and then set it on fire. Three people who jumped out of the train died. Eight people were injured.
