NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court will consider a new plea to cage Arikomban, after tranquilizing, on April 24.

The court has decided to list the petition adhering to its contentions immediately after the state government's petition was dismissed.

The petitioner is Vishnu Prasad, a native of Kollam, who works for the Elephant Management Committee under the Ministry of Environment. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud accepted Vishnu Prasad's lawyer VK Biju's request for urgent consideration.

The petition alleged that the High Court order to shift Arikomban to Parambikulam Tiger Sanctuary is illegal and that many in the expert committee has no understanding of elephants or their habitat.

PT 7, an elephant, was given tranquilizer shots and taken to an enclosure in Dhoni, Palakkad. The petition pointed out that after training, food and medicine, the elephant adapted and that this is the scientific method. If a tranquilized elephant is left in another jungle, it is likely to be attacked by wild animals. The petition also states that attaching a radio collar is also ineffective as it is an object weighing more than 100 kg and this could make the elephant more aggressive.
