THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister Krishnankutty said that if consumption of electricity increases, then it has to be controlled. The consumption of electricity during peak hours should be restricted. Power is purchased at a higher rate from other states, the minister said.

‘If iron and washing machine are not used in the evenings, there will be no problem. All should cooperate. Power for Rs 10 was bought at a price of Rs 20 per unit yesterday. We are the only ones moving without power cut,' the minister said.

The minister said that if some people do not cooperate with excessive electricity consumption in the evenings, there is a situation where power cuts will have to be imposed and if people cooperate, it is hoped that they will be able to manage without power cuts.

For the first time in history, the consumption of power in the state has crossed ten crore units in the last few days. The record of 9.288 crore units recorded in April 2022 was surpassed during these days. Extreme heat is the reason for the rise in consumption of electricity. The use of ACs and fans has increased sharply.
