MUMBAI: A 53-year-old woman who was sleeping outside her house due to heat was mauled to death by a tiger on Monday night. The incident took place in the forest area of Maharashtra's Chandrapur district. Forest department officials and police reached the spot and conducted an inspection.
53-year-old Mandabhai Sidam lived in Virkhalchak village on the edge of Saoli forest range. The woman slept outside her house as she could not bear the heat. At this time, the tiger came here and attacked her. After the woman made a loud noise, the tiger went back into the forest. But Mandabai succumbed to her injuries from the attack, the police said.
Chief Conservator of Forest Dr. Jitendra Ramgonkar said that an initial compensation has been given to the woman's kin. According to the report of the forest department, eight people have been killed by wild animals here this year so far. It is reported that at least 53 people died in such attacks in Chandrapur last year.
