THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Motor Vehicle Department will be imposing inhumane fines as AI cameras start working on roads today. At the same time, the police has decided to continue the inspection of the vehicles by blocking them on the road as well. Police stations have not received any instructions not to do so.
Each camera will impose a fine for the same offense on the same trip
If you are caught on a camera without wearing a helmet, you will receive an update of a Rs 500 fine on your phone. 2,500 rupees will have to be paid if you are caught on five cameras like this. If you talk on a mobile phone, you will be fined Rs 2,000, and if you are caught on five cameras while doing so, you will have to pay Rs 10,000. Once caught on camera, the rest of the process is at the State District Control Room of the Motor Vehicle Department. The penalty is to be approved by the enforcement department. Enforcement may decide that a single fine is enough for someone, but their goal is to accumulate maximum money.
Not applicable to VIPs
Vehicles of the Chief Minister, Ministers, Speaker, Leader of Opposition, Judges, and other important office bearers and those traveling in vehicles fitted with beacon lights for maintaining law and order have been exempted from fine. MVD stated that this is according to the central law.
Initially fine for 5 offenses
