KOZHIKODE: Harsheena, the victim in the case of scissors getting stuck in her stomach, is on strike again, demanding proper compensation and a fair investigation. Harsheena and the leaders of the protest committee announced that they will stage another strike in front of Kozhikode Medical College from May 22. Two lakh rupees sanctioned by the government is disdain. At least 50 lakh rupees should be received as compensation. In a press conference held at the Kozhikode Press Club, Harsheena demanded that the information about how the scissors got stuck in her stomach be released and the culprits should be brought before the law. Time is given till May 22 in the hope of getting justice from the government. Dinesh Perumanna, chairman of the Samara Sahaya Samiti, said that if the government does not come forward with strict measures on the issue, they will stand with Harsheena until justice is served.
On March 4th, the health minister personally consoled Harsheena, who started her protest in front of the medical college hospital, and assured her that compensation and an investigation report would be released within 15 days. A month after that Harsheena announced that she would hold a strike in front of the Secretariat, pointing out that the Health Minister had not kept her word. The next day, two lakhs were allocated from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund in a hurry.
In the order sanctioning the amount, it is said that the Home Department has been tasked to investigate how the scissors got stuck in the stomach. However, even after two weeks, no investigating officers came to check with Harsheena. Dinesh Perumanna informed that even though Harsheena said on the same day that she would not accept just two lakhs, the health department did not care and hence she is proceeding with the strike. Leaders of Samara Sahayaya Samiti Mustafa Palazhi, Sujith Kanjoli, Harsheena's husband Ashraf, and others participated in the press conference.
"I lived with scissors in my stomach for five years. A year after the scissors were pulled out, there is no justice, no compensation. I still firmly believe that the scissors got stuck in my stomach from the Kozhikode Medical College where my last delivery took place. If not, the onus is on the government to prove it. I cannot keep quiet if they offer me just two lakhs as if to be done with it.''
