THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the AI cameras installed across the state to detect and fine traffic violations. Transport Minister Antony Raju presided over the function.
Chief Minister Thiruvananthapuram said that it is necessary to take collective action to deal with deaths due to road accidents and the new generation should take the initiative in this regard. Meanwhile, Minister Antony Raju said that it is a central rule that three people shouldn't be on a two-wheeler and it is the Centre that should make the change. Violations detected by AI cameras will not be fined for one month. Instead, violators will receive a message on their phones. The minister added that awareness will be done till May 19.
726 AI cameras have been installed across the state. Each camera will impose a fine for one offense per trip. The images in these cameras are much clearer than on CCTV. People caught on camera without wearing a helmet will receive a fine of Rs 500. This will be informed on the registered owner's phone. For talking on mobile phone while driving, the fine will be Rs 2000.
