Former DGP Alexander Jacob spoke about one of the marvels he had seen on earth. Alexander Jacob says that he was amazed by the Brihadeeswara Temple in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. He also shares the secret of how a 60-ton Krishna shila (black stone) reached on top of 262-feet-tall temple tower a thousand years ago.
Alexander Jacob’s words:
“Brihadeeswara Temple is one of the marvels I have seen on Earth. Wonder of wonders. A 1000 Shivlingas, a thousand Naga statues. 262 feet tall temple tower is topped by a 60-ton Krishna shila. Many Indians have seen that temple, but did any of us doubt how this 60-ton stone got to the top of the tower. Nine scientists from California came to Thanjavur and stayed there for nine years to do research. Finally, they found the reason.
They made a slope by putting soil for six kilometers. Through it, the elephants rolled stones and carried them on top, and then they removed the soil. But the soil in the last 100 meters was not changed. That's how scientists were able to understand technology after 1000 years. The weight of 60 tons of Krishna shila was transported underground through 16 beams. The wonder is that the Chola King adopted the same technique used by the Americans to build the World Trade Center, to build the Brihadeeswara temple a 1000 years ago. There are twelve thousand statues in the temple tower. The complete text of Ramayana, Mahabharata and Bhagavad Gita are engraved on statues on the four sides of the temple."
