THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Travancore rice, which will be produced under the leadership of the district panchayat for the residents of the capital city, will hit the market on Onam. This is a project to help the paddy farmers of the district by collecting paddy from the farmers, processing it and converting it into rice and bringing it to the market. The project was an important announcement by the district panchayat in the budget for the financial year 2023-24. The rice will hit the market with the tagline 'Ananthapuri's signature'.

Travancore rice will be sold at a price lower than the market price. A budget of Rs.1 crore has been allocated for the project. The first phase of cultivation will be concentrated in Kilimanoor and Chirayinkeezhu. A rice mill will also be started within the limits of Kilimanoor Block Panchayat. A Shailaja Begum, vice president of the District Panchayat, informed Kerala Kaumudi that the amount paid to farmers will be higher than what SupplyCo pays.
