MUVATTUPUZHA: Two youths rescued a 17-year-old girl who jumped from the Kacherithazham Bridge to Muvattupuzha River at night. The incident happened around 10.30 pm on Wednesday. Pedestrians and motorists were traveling on the bridge at this time. Meanwhile, after leaving the bag on the bridge, the girl cried loudly and suddenly jumped into the gushing river.
People including two-wheeler passengers who saw the incident stopped their vehicles and a traffic jam was created on the bridge. In the meantime, the girl had floated down the river and crossed the Nedunchi shores. At this time, Rajneesh and Bibu, natives of Nirappu, who were drinking tea at the tea shop in Nedumchal, jumped into the river when they saw the drowning girl. By this time, the girl was swept away and crossed the Velloorkunnam shore.
The young men quickly swam after her and brought her ashore at another pier about 500 meters away. Locals immediately her rushed to Muvatupuzha General Hospital, where the girl was given first aid and discharged due to very minor injuries. The police and fire force reached the spot. It is not clear what was the provocation behind the incident.
