THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A baby born in Thiruvananthapuram Thycaud Hospital was sold. According to reports, the woman from Karamana bought the baby for three lakh rupees.
The ChildLine workers got the information about the sale of the child last Wednesday and then informed the police. During the subsequent investigation, the woman from Karamana was found, but when she was first questioned, she said that she herself had given birth to the baby. When interrogated again, she admitted that she had bought the baby as she had no children, but she also stated that it was not clear who the real parents of the baby were.
The baby was then taken over by the CWC and transferred to the Thycaud Child Welfare Committee. It is reported that the baby is only eleven days old and was sold immediately after birth. The CWC is investigating who sold the child and efforts are on to trace the child's parents. Health Minister Veena George has sought a report from the director of the health department on the incident.
