THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It is reported that a woman from Pozhiyoor in Neyyanttinkara sold the newborn baby in the capital city. She sold the baby to another woman who is a native of Karamana for Rs 3 lakh. Thampanoor police have filed a case in the incident. The address of the Karamana native woman was given in Thycaud hospital while being admitted for delivery.

The eleven-days old baby was sold on April 11. The police suspect that Pozhiyoor native woman have done similar sale before. The neighbours of Karamana native woman became suspicious when they heard baby’s cries from the home and informed the special branch a week ago. During interrogation, the woman admitted that she bought the baby for Rs 3 lakh. The CWC then took over the baby and transferred to Thycaud Child Welfare Committee. Although there have been hints about baby’s parents, they have not yet been found.

Health Minister Veena George directed the Director of Health Department to conduct an investigation into the matter and submit a report. She also directed the director of Women and Child Development to provide adequate protection for the baby.
