KOLKATA: Clashes in West Bengal after the body of a minor girl was found. The incident was reported in Gangua village of Uttar Dinajpur district. The conflict arose due to allegations of rape and murder of a girl, who had gone missing the previous day. The level of violence escalated after a video emerged where the body of the tribal girl was being dragged by the police on the road and disposed of.

The 15-year-old girl from the Rajbanshi community went missing on Thursday. When the girl who went for tuition did not return home, relatives and locals started searching for her. The girl's body was found near a pond in the area later on Friday. The problems started when the locals protested alleging that the girl was raped and killed. The protest by the locals demanding the arrest of the criminals turned violent. After stone pelting from the crowd, the police resorted to lathi charge.

The situation worsened again when the police reached the spot and moved the body of the girl for post-mortem. Locals became more angry when the video of the girl's body being dragged by the police came out. It is reported that villagers burnt tires and blocked the road. More police have been deployed in the area as the conflict has turned into a riot-like situation. After the video went viral, the Women's Commission intervened in the matter and directed the police chief to take action against the police officers who dragged the girl's body. At present, it is reported that the police have arrested one person in connection with the girl's death.
