KHARTOUM: India with the plan to evacuate Indians from insurgency-ridden Sudan through a naval and aviation system. Naval warship INS Sumedha has reached Port Sudan for rescue operations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said two Air Force planes are in Jeddah for rescue operations.

As Sudan's airports, including those in Khartoum, have been destroyed in the civil war, the plan is to carry out rescue operations mainly by sea. The strategy is to bring the Indians to countries like Saudi Arabia and Egypt by sea and then bring them to India by air. Indians were also rescued in a special mission carried out by the Saudi Navy yesterday by ship. At the same time, it is reported that the central government is mainly trying to move Indians stuck in major problem areas including Khartoum to safer places by road. It is estimated that more than 3000 Indians are stuck in Sudan.

The Ministry of External Affairs had informed that India's air and naval forces are ready for the Sudan rescue mission. The project was formulated on the instructions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a high-level meeting held yesterday. In the meeting, the Prime Minister stated that all possible help should be provided to bring back the stranded people.
