NEW DELHI: With instructions from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, union minister of State for external affairs, V Muraleeadahran rushed to Jeddah to lead "Operation Kaveri" to evacuate Indian nationals from war-hit Sudan. According to reports, the minister has started his journey to Jeddah ending the programs in Kochi. He will reach the Saudi port on Tuesday and will receive the evacuees from Sudan.
The Indian external affairs ministry earlier confirmed weaving “operation Kaveri” to bring back the Indian nationals stuck in the firings between militants in Sudan. According to reports, more than 500 Indians have reached the Sudan port to embark back to safer lands. External affairs minister Jaishankar confirmed that the Indian naval ship has reached the port in Sudan. INS Sumedha is assigned the job while the airforce confirmed about C 130j being fully equipped to fight any hurdles to bring back the trapped ones.
Earlier, France initiated rescue operations to help many Indians move out of Sudan. It is estimated that more than 3000 people with Indian citizenship are currently in Sudan.
