THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Security has been beefed up in the state capital for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the wake of suicide attack threats and the leak of intelligence's security plan. The security plan was jointly prepared by the Special Protection Force (SPG) and the Central Intelligence Bureau (IB).
Arrangements are under the leadership of SPG IG Suresh Raj Purohit. City Police Commissioner CH. More than two thousand policemen have been assigned for security under the leadership of City Police Commissioner CH Nagaraju. The police deployment is as per the instructions of the SPG. Top IB officials are also in Thiruvananthapuram.
After flagging off the Vande Bharat train service at Thiruvananthapuram Central Station today at 10.30 am, the Prime Minister will arrive at Central Stadium at 11 am for a public function. Tight security has been arranged at both places. Thampanoor KSRTC depot and platforms one to three of the railway station will remain closed for three hours. Bus services from Thampanoor will start from Vikas Bhavan depot. Hotels and tall buildings are under police surveillance. A trial run for the PM's journey from the airport to the meeting place was conducted yesterday. Barricades were placed on both sides of the road. There will be a parking ban and traffic restrictions in the city on Tuesday.
More than 200 SPG personnel are in the capital for security. SPG has brought bulletproof vehicles for the Prime Minister's journey, vehicles fitted with mobile signal jammers and bomb-dog squad to the capital on a special flight. SPG has also taken over the security of the railway station and central stadium. There will be strong surveillance and patrolling on the coast and in the air. During the Prime Minister's programs, naval and coast guard ships will conduct surveillance in the sea and air force aircraft in the sky. Since the state intelligence's security plan was leaked, the SPG has prepared more than three security schemes to deal with any emergency.
There is strict police patrolling to prevent the possibility of protests on the Prime Minister's route. Strong vigilance has been announced in places where organizations that pose security threats have a strong presence. There are boat patrols in the sea, including in Vizhinjam and Poovar. There will be traffic restrictions in the city from 7 am to 2 pm.
