AMRITSAR: Five-time chief minister of Punjab and Akali Dal supremo Parkash Singh Badal breathed his last in Mohali. He was 95. For the last few months, Badal was experiencing languidness and occasionally got mired in lung-related issues. On Sunday, the ailment grew bad forcing the family to move Badal to a Fortis private hospital in Mohali. The death was confirmed by the Personal Assistant of his son and party president Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Born on 1927 December 8th in the village of Badal, Parksah Singh walked a fine line to later emerge as a colossal figure in Punjab politics. Parkash Singh Badal was the youngest Chief Minister to ever hold office in the state of Punjab.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the tributes to the Punjab leader, calling him a "colossal figure of Indian politics, and a remarkable statesman".
Parkash Singh also grabbed headlines in his final years by returning the Padmavibhusan award for the central government's mistreatment of farmers.
