KOCHI: The High Court has held that a building with a base area not exceeding one thousand square meters and having less than ten apartments does not fall under the definition of flat or multi-storied building and is eligible for domestic connection by the water authority.
Justice Shaji P Chali's order came on a petition filed by CL Antony, owner of Metro Heights Apartment on Kumaranashan Road, Ernakulam, against the Water Authority's denial of domestic connection.
The water authority argued that if the foundation area is more than 500 square meters, it falls under the ambit of multi-storied building. But the High Court held that this provision applies to buildings for non-domestic purposes. The High Court also ordered to provide domestic connection within three weeks.
