PATNA: Officers of the Excise Department were attacked by a gang of drunkards. The incident took place yesterday at Chhapra in Bihar. A finger of an official was bitten off by one of the accused during the attack. The officials then arrested the six-member gang that attempted to smuggle liquor from Uttar Pradesh to Bihar.
All six men were under the influence of alcohol. The gang's car was stopped by the Excise officials when it reached the Uttar Pradesh-Bihar border. In the subsequent vehicle inspection, the Excise team seized two beer cans and locally made liquor from the car. Following this, the gang attacked the officials.
During the attack, one of the accused bit the finger of an officer named Ravi Kumar. Ravi Kumar, whose finger was severed, was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and later to the Sadar Hospital, Chhapra.
