IDUKKI: Arikomban, the rogue tusker on a wreckage mission in Munnar will be chained tomorrow. The mission will kickstart strictly at 4:30 am while the village sleeps. The forest officials held a meeting in Chinnakanal and decided to move ahead with the plan. Meanwhile, no confirmation has been reached about where to shift the tusker after tranquilizing.
As part of the mission, the first two wards in Chinnakanal and Santhanpara have been placed under a curfew. Four Kumki elephants will also be part of the mission to tame the wild one. The start will be from the base station at 4:30 am in Chinnakanal. According to the planned version, Arikomban will be tranquilized before 6 am in the morning. The ammunition and the shooting essentials are being transported to the base station. After tranquilizing the giant, a radio collar will be lassoed on the tusker.
It will take six hours to come out of the tranquil effect. In between these defining times, Arikomban will be carted to a safe spot away from human habitat. Thekkady and Periyar wildlife is being considered as the new abode for the giant.
