THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The vigilance team probing the massive scam in the installation of 726 AI cameras across the state has collected files from the Motor Vehicles Department. More files of Keltron including tender documents and minutes of meetings have also been directed to be produced within two days. 3 officials of the motor vehicle department were questioned. The initial assessment is that there was an irregularity in the files of the Safe Kerala project. It is indicated that there were later interventions in the files approved at the secretary level and handed over to Keltron.
Vigilance sought permission from the government on a complaint filed by an organization called the Indian Anti-Corruption Mission in Karunagapally last October. A preliminary investigation was approved at the end of February. Although the complaint is against Rajeev Puthalath, who was the Joint Transport Commissioner, and Rajesh, the accountant, the entire transactions in the camera scheme will be investigated.
Meanwhile, the officials of the Indian Anti-Corruption Mission came forward explaining that no complaint had been filed and the letterhead on which the complaint was filed was fake. Vigilance was also informed about this. A vigilance notice will be issued to take the statements of the officials. It is indicated that the complaint was withdrawn after it became controversial. The vigilance said that even if the complainants withdraw, the investigation will continue as the preliminary investigation has found that there is substance.
