THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As part of the 'Viva Keralam' campaign implemented by the health department for an anaemia-free Kerala, blood tests conducted at homes crossed 3 lakh and found 1.47 lakh women, aged 15 to 59 years, suffering from anaemia.

A total of 3,00119 people were tested for anaemia. Of these, 8,189 people were diagnosed with severe anaemia. 69,521 were diagnosed with moderate anemia and 69,668 with mild anemia.

People suffering from mild anemia will be given awareness to change their diet and lifestyle. Those who are moderately anaemic will be treated through primary health centers. Those suffering from severe anemia will be taken to taluk and district-level hospitals for treatment including blood transfusion.

Further inspection was done in Kollam. 32,146 people were tested in the district. 28,533 people were tested in Thiruvananthapuram and 26,619 in Alappuzha.

Palakkad tops the list of severe anaemia cases. 1,528 people were diagnosed with severe anaemia in the district. Of the tested, 848 people in Malappuram and 753 people in Wayanad are suffering from severe anaemia. Palakkad also had the highest number of people diagnosed with severe anaemia at 7426. Close behind, 7128 people in Malappuram and 6,253 people in Kollam were diagnosed with severe anaemia.
