NEW DELHI: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has taken a favorable stand on the wrestlers’ protest over alleged sexual misconduct by Wrestling Federation President and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

Tharoor tweeted ‘Dear @PTUshaOfficial, it is does not become you to disparage the justified protests of your fellow sportspersons in the face of repeated & wanton sexual harassment. Their standing up for their rights does not "tarnish the image of the nation". Ignoring their concerns - instead of hearing them out, investigating them & taking just action – does.’

Tharoor blamed Usha and harshly criticized her for her remarks. His remark came a day after Usha, strongly criticized the wrestlers' protest as a negative approach that is tarnishing the country's image.

‘The players should not have protested on the streets. They should have at least waited for the report of the committee. What they have done is not good for the game and the country. It is a negative approach,’ she said.

Meantime, Annie Raja demanded an apology from her for insulting the protesting wrestlers. Usha's remarks are insulting the athletes fighting for justice. This is an insult to the country. She said the National Women's Federation strongly criticized Usha’s remarks. They pointed that Usha should have stood with the survivors.
