MALAPPURAM: The Customs Department has seized gold worth nearly Rs 1.50 crores from two passengers at Karipur airport. The arrested persons are Kanthapuram native Muhammad Afnas and Pattarkulam native Yasim. The two attempted to smuggle the gold by hiding it in their anus in capsule form.
Numerous attempts have been made to smuggle gold through the Karipur airport. Several people, including women, were arrested in recent times while attempting to smuggle gold. Last December, the police had arrested a woman named Shahala from outside the airport for attempting to smuggle 1.884 kg of gold. The gold was found hidden in a mixed form in three packets inside her innerwear.
