KANNUR: A four-year-old girl refused to give up her love for dancing despite losing her right leg. Her teachers discouraged her. Although she was sad, she had the willpower not to give up. Today 21-year-old Vismaya danced in 500 stages with her prosthetic leg and with her single leg.

Vismaya amazed the audience with her performance in Chennai, Mumbai, Chhattisgarh, and Qatar. She also participated in reality shows.

Now Vismaya is a final-year student at Pariyaram Ayurveda Medical College. Her right leg was stunted at birth and had a bend below the knee. She also didn’t have a thumb. As per the doctors’ suggestion, her right leg was amputated and a prosthetic leg was attached. Vismaya slowly started to dance from Class 7 and Mija Girish from Kalakshethra taught her dance. Vismaya first performed in a program organized as part of International Day of Disabled Persons, later she performed cinematic dance, Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, and Folk dance.

She got an expensive artificial leg through a camp but after realizing the mistakes she made while dancing, she switched to dancing on one leg. People recognized her when she started dancing with one leg.

Vismaya considers Sudha Chandran as her inspiration and regularly watches her dance videos. Vismaya is the daughter of MV Manoharan, a painting worker and PP Deepa. MV Sayuj is her brother.
