KOCHI: KSRTC has submitted an application to the Claim Commissioner seeking Rs 5.07 crore for the damages caused during the hartal announced by Popular Front on September 23, 2022. PD Sharangadharan, the commissioner was appointed by the High Court to assess the damages and determine the claim. The application was made before him. According to the petition, KSRTC buses are the means of livelihood for 26,000 employees and 42,000 pensioners, and 23-26 lakh people depend on it for travel. The service cannot be interrupted even for a day. 58 buses were vandalized during hartal by Popular Front. Ten crew members and one passenger were injured. It has also been explained in the petition filed along with the figures that there was a loss of Rs 5.07 crore. The compensation is assessed by the Claims Commissioner after hearing the petition.
