NEW DELHI: Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has said that he is ready to resign from his post if the protesting wrestlers agree to stop their protest. Brij Bhushan also said that he is happy that the Supreme Court gave permission to the Delhi Police to register two FIRs against him.
The Delhi Police registered the first FIR against Brij Bhushan for sexually assaulting a minor girl. On Friday, the Supreme Court had directed to assess whether there is any threat to the life of the complainant, a 16-year-old wrestler. A second FIR was registered against Brij Bhushan for sexually harassing six other wrestlers.
"I'm satisfied with the honourable court's decision. The wrestlers have been raising their demands for the last few days. They also staged a protest. They approached the court and the court noticed the matter. The court has directed the Delhi Police to register an FIR on the complaint of the wrestlers and conduct an investigation. I will cooperate with the investigation. I'm satisfied with the court's decision. Moreover, I too agree with it as I'm a citizen of this country and the Supreme Court is the highest court of the country," Brij Bhushan said.
"The demands of the wrestlers are changing from time to time. They first demanded my resignation as the chief of the Wrestling Federation. later, they accused me of sexually harassing wrestlers. After that, they demanded the government to conduct a probe against me. The government assigned two committees to conduct an investigation regarding the complaints. The probe came to an end. However, the wrestlers did not wait for the inquiry report to come out. They approached the Supreme Court. I'm ready to resign if they want me to resign. You ask them to stop the protests and return to practice. I'm willing to resign. However, I'm not a criminal," he added.
