PATNA: Former BJP MLA Jawahar Prasad has been arrested by the police in connection with the Ram Navami clashes in Bihar. The BJP leader was arrested during the violence in Sasaram district. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that the arrest came after the evidence of Jawahar Prasad's role in the clashes came to light. Nitish Kumar stated that cases have been filed against those involved in the attacks regardless of their political connections.
At the same time, BJP came out against the arrest. Former Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi alleged that Prasad was arrested only to implicate BJP in the violence that followed the Ram Navami procession. RJD spokesperson Ejaz Ahmed accused the BJP of doing communal polarization for political gains.
During the procession led by Hindutva organizations on the day of Ram Navami, widespread attacks took place in different parts of the state. Madrasahs, mosques, Islamic libraries were attacked and a police report showing that the attack was planned had also come out.
