KOZHIKODE: A major theft occurred at the Subramanya temple in Kottapally, Vadakara. A gold crown, chain, Subrahmanya's vel (spear) and Rs 10000 have been lost. Money in a hundi has been robbed, tried to steal money from another, but was unsuccessful. A loss of Rs 1,00, 000 has been estimated.

The priest kept the keys in the temple after the pooja. The robber opened the temple using the key and then committed the theft. Some renovation work was going on in the temple. Following the complaint of the committee members, the police started an investigation.

Meantime, two doors of Panavoor Vellanchira Ayiravilli Dharma Shastha Temple were destroyed in fire. Police said that it was an attempted robbery. As they could not get any valuables, they threw the lamps and the plates at a nearby pond. The robbers entered the temple last night, piled firewood and set fire to the front door. The incident happened when the temple festival was about to begin. The assailants set fire to the doors of the shrines of Shastha and Ganapathy.

The wood was piled up next to the door and kerosene or petrol was poured on it and set on fire. The doors were completely burnt. After being informed, the police and fingerprint experts reached the spot and collected evidence.
