AMSTERDAM: A Dutch court has banned a man from sperm donation after he fathered more than 550 children around the world. A man named Jonathan Jacob (41), a native of Netherland’s Hague has been banned by the court and ordered to impose a fine of 100,000 euros (Rs 90,96,300), if he tries to donate again.
Dutch clinical guidelines state that a donor should not father more than 25 children in 12 families to prevent incest. He donated the sperm by misinforming the women about the number of donations and the number of children conceived. An advocacy group named ‘Donorkind Foundation’ and a mother who had a child with the man's sperm filed a lawsuit against the sperm donor. Jonathan who is a musician, currently lives in Kenya.
The court also issued a stern warning to Jonathan, noting the psychological problems a child might face when he or she knows about having hundreds of siblings. The court also observed that the children may get married in the future without knowing that they are siblings.
He started donating sperm in 2007 to 13 fertility clinics.
In 2017, the Netherlands banned him after it was discovered that he fathered more than 100 children. But Jonathan refused to stop. He started donating sperm online and continued it in online countries.
The court also directed him to provide a list of all clinics he donated his sperm to and ordered them to destroy it.
