CHENNAI: Around 22 snakes were found inside the luggage of a passenger who arrived at Chennai airport from Malaysia on Friday. 22 snakes of different species were kept in plastic containers. A chameleon was also found with the reptiles.

A video of snakes in Chennai airport is doing the rounds on social media. The video also shows the officers trying to catch the snakes carefully with an iron rod. The passenger has been arrested by the customs department.

Following the incident, Customs and DRI officials have deployed special squads at Madurai, Tiruchi, Coimbatore and Chennai airports. It has been reported that smuggling of exotic species of animals is taking place through Tamil Nadu airports.
