THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Twp people, including a BJP councilor, have been remanded for their alleged involvement in setting fire to the ashram of Sandeepananda Giri. Girikumar, PTP Nagar Ward Councilor, and Sabari S Nair, who were arrested in the case, have now been remanded. The court will consider their bail application tomorrow.

BJP councilor VG Girikumar was arrested today by the crime branch team for his involvement in hatching conspiracy for the arson at the ashram of Sandeepananda Giri in Kundamankadavu. According to the police, Girikumar, who is a PTP ward councilor and Thiruvananthapuram district leader of RSS and BJP, instigated the accused and helped them destroy the evidence.

Sabari, a native of Karumamkulam, who is an RSS activist, was arrested earlier in the case. The crime branch arrested him from his house last night. Sabari was found to have reached the ashram on the day it was set ablaze. Information about Sabari was received from the statements of those arrested earlier. Four people were already arrested in the case. In 2018, the vehicle in front of the ashram and some parts of the ashram were set on fire.
