KOCHI: Tourists are flocking to the Kochi water metro to enjoy the beauty of Kochi by travelling on a beautiful AC boat. 52,141 people have travelled in metro boats in six days till May 1. Many have to wait for several hours for the ticket. The High Court and Vypin boat jetties are crowded by people from other districts and states rather than locals. Even MLAs are calling Metro officials with recommendations to get tickets without queuing.
Beautiful terminals, modern facilities, staff wearing clean uniforms, jetty and boat always at the same level, silent twin-hull boats that move at high speed without swaying in the waves, beautiful views of Kochi through the wide glass windows...Kochi Water Metro is providing a dream trip for tourists.
The service on the High Court-Vypin route was started on April 26. The next day, the service was started on the Vyttila-Kakkanad route. Boats ply every 15 minutes from 7 am to 8 pm on the High Court - Vypin route. The employees, who have been waiting for the inauguration for a year, are also in the mood for celebration. One can reach Vypin by metro boat in 16 minutes. The fare is Rs.20.
One can get the ticket by paying at the counter or on the Kochi One mobile app. People can also use Kochi One Smart Card. The passenger control system to the jetty will be automatically closed once 100 people board the boat.
There are fewer tourists on the Kakkanad route. Most of them are officials and private company employees. Two boats have been operating on this route since Tuesday. One more boat will arrive soon. Fuel costs are very low as the boats run on electricity.
